The Rev Dr David Fleenor is the keynote speaker at the Annual ANZACPE Conference – which TASPE is proud to be hosting here in Tasmania this August. TASPE would like to provide an opportunity for those working in Chaplaincy, Pastoral and Spiritual Care to hear and engage with David whilst he’s here in Tasmania.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER – Rev Dr David Fleenor
David FleenorThe Rev. Dr. David W. Fleenor is an ACPE Certified Educator, board-certified chaplain, and Episcopal priest whose work focuses on the future of healthcare chaplaincy education. He serves as Director of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at ArchCare, the continuing care community of the Archdiocese of New York, where he leads accredited CPE programming across a large and complex healthcare system.
Over the course of his career, David has helped develop and strengthen CPE programs within major academic medical centers, including Mount Sinai Health System, NYU Health, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He also founded the first ACPE-accredited CPE program at Stony Brook University Hospital. In addition to his clinical leadership, he has held faculty appointments at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at the George Mercer School of Theology.
A scholar-practitioner, David completed his Ph.D. in Health Sciences at Rush University, where his research focused on transforming healthcare chaplaincy education. His work explored early-career chaplain formation, hiring manager expectations, and national consensus on professional competencies, contributing to emerging models for training healthcare chaplains.
David was also featured in the award-winning documentary A Still Small Voice, which received the U.S. Documentary Directing Award at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The film offers a rare and intimate look at CPE and helped bring international attention to the formation of chaplains and the vital role of spiritual care within contemporary healthcare.
