Welcome to our 2027 Conference – Facing the Fire! I

Back in 2024 we Reflected Forward with Michael Paterson; In 2025 we explored Sustainable Spiritual Care for the long term with Jim Schirmer; In 2026 we looked at the breaking ground and our Foundations with Br Damien Price.

In 2027 -We are Facing the Fire with our keynote speaker Naomi Paget. Over 2 days we will look at how we provide Spiritual Care for those in Crisis and Trauma.  In a world where communities face escalating disasters — natural, environmental, and human‑made — Facing the Fire equips chaplains and pastoral carers to meet crisis with courage, clarity, and compassion. TASPE’s annual conference delves into the realities of spiritual care amid trauma: supporting first responders, walking with survivors, and sustaining resilience in the aftermath of fires, floods, emergencies, threats, war, and public tragedies. This year’s keynote speaker, Naomi Paget (USA), brings internationally respected expertise in disaster spiritual care and crisis intervention, offering practical tools and deep insight for those who serve on the front lines of human suffering. This Conference will provide us with tools, skill and professional networks we need to assist those ‘Facing the Fire’.

This year we are moving North to the Country Club Tasmania. This is a more central location, a larger venue, accommodation options and will provide more opportunities for networking and getting together  

Program Outline

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

Dr. Naomi Paget has worked in critical events and disasters for over 60 years. She is a published author, and consults for several national and international organisations, military, emergency services, faith-based organisations, corporations, and disaster relief agencies. Providing crisis intervention, consultation, and strategic planning, Dr. Paget has provided trauma-informed and evidence-based care and education in many countries following crises, war, violence, genocide, and disasters of every kind in countries including Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Serbia, Haiti, Japan, China, Kenya and many others. She is an engaging speaker whose teaching draws on a lifetime of learning and experience.
