Introduction to CPE and Pastoral Care

November 2, 2018 @ 9:00 am - December 14, 2018 @ 3:00 pm

| $380

Outline

The Introduction to CPE and Pastoral Care Course emphasises an “Action/Reflection” model of learning. You learn from your own supervised experience in a training group and in a student placement.

This course consists of a minimum of 40 hours of course work including group work, theory, reading & response, engaging in the practice of pastoral care & presentation of a Patient Encounter Review. It introduces Pastoral Supervision to help you discover and build upon your own resources for pastoral ministry with people in situations of crisis and growth.

Objectives

To provide a context where people can begin to work in a supervised placement.

Create a learning model which gives people the opportunity to develop their professional, personal, and pastoral resources for ministry to others

Help participants discover effective ways of interacting with patients, staff and others which are healing, sustaining, guiding, reconciling, nurturing and liberating.

Provide a safe group supervision process where people can evaluate their effectiveness of their ministry. And to foster self awareness and interpersonal sensitivity.

Encourage participants to examine and reflect on pastoral situations in light of scripture and church traditions as well as examining theological understanding in light of real life experiences.

Each trainee is to write up a verbatim which may be used in group supervision.”

Practical Component

This course requires participants to be willing to engage in the practice of pastoral care and write a review of at least one pastoral encounter. This may be undertaken in a current ministry position, (eg church or faith community), however there is also the opportunity to undertake this at the Royal Hobart Hospital. If you would like to undertake your placement at the RHH please let the course coordinator know as soon as possible, as there will be additional considerations.

Nb. This course is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to join the RHH Chaplaincy team as a pastoral visitor.
